Sleep Dealer and Invisible Labor

by Kara Keeling

Sleep Dealer dramatizes a situation wherein physical labor is accomplished in the United States without the physical presence of the laborer.  The "interface" for the laborer connects the laborer's nervous system into the global economy through suturing him into a robot / avatar that actually performs the labor.  Cross reference this scene with this one from the documentary Maquilapolis.
