Interactive TV used for government messages

by Critical Commons Manager

Ironically, one of the few representations of interactive TV in mainstream cinema appears in the unwittingly fascist society portrayed in Starship Troopers. Viewers who receive messages about the latest bug attacks from outer space and crime rampages by "non-citizens" are asked "Would you like to know more" after each news item. In this case, the extent of interactivity allowed amounts to little more than a binary yes/no navigation that does not even approach the level of simple hypertext.
