Volumetric mapping in Prometheusby Critical Commons Manager
The "pups" used for constructing a remote, scale 3D model capture volumetric data but not photographic imagery of the interior of an alien cavern. The design fiction of such a mapping technology is easily extrapolated from the existing 21st century technology of 3D scanning and holographic displays, but it retains a quaint, 20th century separation of the realms of data and images that will surely be dissolved in the decades, if not years, to come.
