Apathy American-Style

by Carrie Rentschler

"The Detached Americans" is a documentary film that draws on the conventions of the television civics lesson. This 30-minute version of the film (the original was 60 minutes) book-ends a critique of the social anomie created by mass society and white flight via suburbanization with narration about the 1964 Kitty Genovese murder.
