Do the Right Thing: Camera and Editing

by Christine Acham

The scene from Spike Lee's Do the Right Thing contrasts the relative calm of the closing of the Pizzeria evidenced in long takes and traditional camera angles and framing with the confrontation between Sal and Radio Raheem. The scene evolves into a series of canted angles which adds to the chaos of the scene. Also note the director's use of sound and silence.
