Sound in Singin' in the Rain

by Brian Davis

In this scene, we see how Monumental Pictures’ first attempt at integrating sound into film leads to many problems. In effect, the film they are making becomes an example of how not to make a sound movie. We get many examples of “incidental sound,” sound the audience is not supposed to hear. The effects here are quite humorous.
