Sound in Singin' in the Rain

In the opening sequence to Singin' in the Rain, as is the conventional method for narrative film beginnings, the film introduces us to its primary thematic concerns: sound technology in cinema (notice the amplifier and microphone) and the relationship between fiction/falsity and reality/sincerity (notice the publicity magazine that reads "Reel Life" or "Re-al Life").
