Commentaries on this Media!

by Anirban Kapil Baishya

I know where your cat lives is a social media experiment that exposes the vulnerability of data in the age of trackable information. Even innocuous images uploaded to the internet can be track and aggregated for user data such as format, device used, location and time-stamps. While cat pictures are hardly the stuff of the surveillance state, the project exposes the logic of the neoliberal system, where one’s leisure can be turned into tradable information. While cat pictures are framed as “cute” and “funny” they still feed into this neoliberal logic where leisure and affect can be tracked, managed and manipulated as information.
