Stagecoach - The Classical Western

This scene from John Ford's 1939 film Stagecoach draws on the rich tradition of the western, which had already spanned half a century of dime novels and thirty years of movies. Look out for the character types and plot points (conventions), as well as the visual and aural elements (iconography) that seem common to the western as a genre, even eighty years later.
