Desperate Business
by Linda Ghent `

In many countries around the world (including the United States), the sale of human organs is prohibited. That is, the donor cannot receive anything of value in return for donating an organ. This has led to a black market in human organs.

This is a documentary showing individuals who have participated in this black market. For many of the world's poor, the opportunity to sell a kidney may mean food for their families. The opportunity to purchase an organ when one is not available is also appealing to those who can afford to do so.
