Money in Stalag 17

by AdrianFohr

Money serves several purposes.  Money is...

1.) ... a store of value.  You can hold on to your money, intending to spend it only when you see something else that you would like to purchase.

2.)... a medium of exchange.  Money allows you to trade with other people even if you don't have anything else that they want.

3.) a unit of account.  Money allows you to understand and approximately gauge how much a good or service is worth to you.

If it weren't for money, we would only be able to barter.  Money helps us to get around 'the double coincidence of wants.  We can trade with people even if the don't have the final good or service that we want.  In the follow comic, two cavemen experience the double coincidence of wants, we assume that they will trade.
