Wall Street and Adam Smith

by AdrianFohr

In this clip, Gordon Gecko address an audience of stock holders. In this clip, Gordon Gecko criticizes special interests and lauds self-interest. While greed is, in fact, not good, we are reminded of the famous quote: Adam Smith, The Nature and Cause of the Wealth of Nations “It is not from the benevolence of the butcher, the brewer, or the baker, that we can expect our dinner, but from their regard to their own interest” In said work, Adam Smith argues and shows that two people don't trade unless they expect to be better off afterwards.

Apology for Capitalism in Wall Street

In this scene, Gordon Gecko becomes the majority share owner of a company. He is given the floor and speaks for a moment in an attempt to sway the opinion of other shareholders. What follows turns out to be a great apology for capitalism.
